2017 wasn't the first time I participated in World Pinhole Photography Day. Back in 2014 I took several shots at Southsea seafront. The wind was howling but fortunately the rain held off, and I selected the shot below for my submission to the World Pinhole Photography Day website.
The shot was taken with a Lumix G6 micro-four-thirds digital camera fitted with a borrowed Pinwide pinhole.
A particular stipulation for submissions to the WPPD website is that all photos must be taken on the day, although since many are taken on film they can be submitted up to a month later, to allow time for developing. This stipulation meant that I could not participate in subsequent years as I was otherwise occupied those days, but I fully intended to submit something in 2017 as I had recently taken delivery of an Intrepid 5x4 large format camera and was keen to try it out. When I ordered the camera I didn't have a lens, but Intrepid sell a laser-cut pinhole as an accessory, which I also purchased. I had expected to be taking the camera to some nearby (and, I hoped) photogenic location to make my shot. As it happened, on the day in question I was unable to leave the confines of the house and garden, so it was there that I found myself using the Intrepid camera for the first time, between showers of rain. Strictly speaking I wasn't using 'large format' as I made the shots with a Wista 6x7 rollfilm back fitted to the Intrepid, because I had yet to load 5x4 film into my film holders. How this arrangement worked out can be seen in the inaugural video of my YouTube channel Coarse Camerawork: https://youtu.be/PCxDioIqR0M The shot I eventually chose for submission can be seen on the WPPD website: http://www.pinholeday.org/gallery/2017/?id=2556 All the pictures I took on the day are on my Flickr: https://flic.kr/s/aHsm1NGy8g
